Highlights include stunning views of Kanchenjunga, encounters with traditional yak herder huts, and visits to numerous crystal-clear lakes teeming with rainbow trout. The journey also provides cultural immersion with nights spent near monasteries, surrounded by the chants of monks. This trek is a perfect blend of natural beauty and cultural richness, making it a must-do for adventurers visiting Bhutan.

Day 1

Geynizampa (2,800 m) to Gur (3,290 m)

5 hours/7 km/550 m ascent/210 m descent

Your journey begins in the charming village of Geynizampa, surrounded by lush greenery and traditional Bhutanese homes. The trek kicks off with a descent, leading you to cross a river that meanders along the valley floor. As you ascend the other side, you'll climb to a vast rocky platform that offers spectacular views of the valley, stretching all the way to the capital city, Thimphu. From this vantage point, the trail winds through picturesque meadows and pasture lands for approximately two hours until you reach Gur. This area is a favored grazing spot for yaks and lies just below the trail, providing a serene spot for your first campsite.

Day 2

Gur (3,290 m) to Labatamba (4,300 m)

5 hours/12 km/1,220 m ascent/110 m descent

The second day presents a more challenging hike as you traverse some of the high ridges of the region, taking in the rugged yet stunning landscapes and pristine forests. The route leads you over a significant mountain pass marked by a large cairn of rocks. This spot offers one of the best views of Kanchenjunga, the world's third-highest peak at 8,586 meters. After crossing the pass, you'll descend into the Labatamba Valley and then climb to your campsite by Uthso Tsho, the first of many beautiful lakes you'll encounter.

Day 3

Labatamba (4,300 m)

Today is a well-deserved rest day, allowing you to recover from the strenuous trek. This day also provides a perfect opportunity to explore the nearby lakes—Reli Tsho, Hen Tsho, and Jama Tsho. These stunning bodies of water are ideal for a relaxing day of exploration and even trout fishing. The lakes are stocked with rainbow trout, and with a local permit, you can enjoy some excellent fishing in this serene environment.

Day 4

Labatamba (4,300 m) to Pangkha (4,000 m)

6-7 hours/8 km/260 m ascent/520 m descent

After a restful day, you’ll resume your trek with a climb along the western side of Dala Tsho, leading up to a saddle on the ridge. From this high-altitude vantage point, the views are breathtaking, with clear days offering glimpses of the majestic Mount Everest in the distance. Descending into the Doccha Chhu Valley, you'll pass by traditional yak herder huts, giving you a glimpse into the local way of life. The trail follows the river until you reach the village of Pangkha, where you will set up camp for the night.

Day 5

Pangkha (4,000 m) to Talakha (4,180 m)

5-6 hours/8 km/720 m ascent/520 m descent

Today's trek involves crossing several mountain passes, though none are particularly strenuous. The journey between Pangkha and Talakha is renowned for its biodiversity, especially the mountain birds that inhabit the region. During the summer months, the fields are adorned with vibrant blue poppies. After crossing the final pass, you’ll begin your descent to the valley and reach Talakha. Your campsite for the night is next to the Talakha Monastery, where you’ll be lulled to sleep by the tranquil surroundings and wake up to the monks' morning prayers.

Day 6

Talakha (4,180 m) to Chamgang (2,820 m)

3 hours/6 km/1400 m descent

The final day of your trek is a relatively short descent to the small village of Chamgang. The trail follows the service road for the monastery, a simple dirt track that winds through the landscape. Before departing, you can explore the Talakha Monastery, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere and perhaps engaging with the monks. The trek concludes as you reach Chamgang, marking the end of an unforgettable journey through Bhutan’s stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage.
